The great thing about living in London is that there is always something going on, and some of it is even free – like the Beauty School Drop In at the Illamasqua flagship store in Beak street every second Sunday. I went to have a look on the 16th of September, and ended up staying for a whole afternoon’s sessions. Our instructor was Clare Lille, who did an excellent job of demonstrating the new Generation Q collection. It’s promo shots contain mostly mature ladies, but the products works for people of any age. And that is the great thing about Illamasqua, it doesn’t discriminate. The products are really for anyone that likes to experiment, regardless of age or skin colour.
Since hitting the big 3.0. (a while ago), I can definitely see a change in my skin’s texture, and my ever increasing crinkly eyelids scares me from attempting bold looks and shimmers on myself. The thing with breaking the rules though, is to know how to do it properly, and when it comes to shiny makeup, the trick is to use the right kind of shimmer in the right places. Clare demonstrated three looks, one natural for daytime, another for corrective makeup and contouring and the last was an evening look, with a full set of eyelashes, dark eyes with a hint of shimmer, and bold lips.
After learning some new tricks and discovering great new products, I certainly look forward to growing old (dis)gracefully. Do you have a favourite Illamasqua product? Tell me what and why.
